Welcome to this week's
Wednesday Stamp Club sketch #120 from
My Favorite Things! You can see the original sketch along with links to the design team members playing along with this week's sketch over at the
MFT blog.
When I first saw the sketch I was so excited with the open canvas it provides, but
as soon as I started working on my card, all of that wide-open space was
giving me too many options, and you know what happens with too many
options, don't you?! Brain freeze! So, the card that you're seeing today
is probably my 3rd or 4th idea and I have to admit that I'm happy with it. My creative determination gave me time to remember all the trendy things I've been wanting to incorporate...woodgrain and gold embossing powder, whee!
I started with a black panel and then temporarily layered my woodgrain
Die-namics InstaFrame so I could audition the perfectly sized sentiment without further trial and error, wink. This particular sentiment from Birthday Sentiments fit perfectly and went along with the trendy look I was aiming for. Before stamping the sentiment in watermark ink, I swiped my anti-static embossing buddy across the black layer. Trust me on that one, it's worth the extra effort to dig the embossing buddy out of hiding to get a nice clean embossed image, free of stray bits of powder here and there.
After the embossed image was finished, I mounted my woodgrain InstaFrame onto the black layer with foam tape to give the card front a bit more dimension. I opted for Die-namics
Stacked Stars in lieu of the banner sections called for in the original sketch to continue on with the (hopefully) trendy-modern look and feel. This card is going out to my oldest brother for his birthday next week, and I think this look works for big brother!
Lastly, a peek at the inside finished with a strip of black across the bottom, stamped and embossed with another sentiment from the
Birthday Sentiments set and row of stars from
Rock On.
There you have it, another friendly sketch from My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamps Club! Hope you get a chance to play along this week. Head on over the
MFT blog for more details!
