Welcome to the October
Creative Challenge with
My Favorite Things! This month we're getting ready to countdown to Christmas! We're here to provide you with some fun inspiration to help you get into the holiday swing 'cause it's never too early, right?! When you're finished up here, head on over to the
MFT Blog for more inspiration provided by the rest of the girls participating in this month's
Creative Challenge.
After much searching and pinning, I came up with an idea for an Advent Tree and constructed it in a way that will allow me to change colors from year to year with minimal cost and time investment.
The
Jellybean Green Felt tree base,
Natural Buttons and
Hemp Cord are a
permanent fixture on an 11x14 canvas base, but the
Primitive Cream
Die-namics Christmas Ornaments can easily be cut from another color of
the
MFT color family to suit my ever-changing mind. My mind is already
reeling with ideas!
After machine stitching the
Jellybean Green triangle/tree onto the canvas, I stitched the winding
Hemp Cord in place using an overhand stitch every few inches and on each of the curves that extend beyond the edge of the tree. Each of the
Natural Buttons was also hand stitched for maximum hold.
I used the numbers from
Accent It - Calendar Components in
Steel Blue to label each of the
Christmas Ornaments. After much thought and debate, I decided to use Modge Podge to adhere each number; brushing both an undercoat and overcoat of Modge Podge for extra stay-power. After the ornaments dried, I sprayed the whole batch with
Mix-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist and ended up with a mottled effect (when sprayed on top of Modge Podge) which I really like!
Each ornament was then fitted with a
Hemp Cord loop secured with a red sticky dot (don't remove the second backing). The loops were made small enough to fit snugly over the hand-stitched
Natural Buttons.
I hope you've enjoyed my Advent Tree and are inspired to start thinking about your own Christmas countdown project. If you have any further questions, please leave me a comment and I'll respond as quickly as I can. Thanks for stopping by today!
